What Works

What the
research says.

Do we use other products? Yes. Do we think these are the only products worth buying? No. There are many great options out there.

But when we looked at the clinical research, these are the ones the data kept pointing to. Every product on this page features ingredients supported by at least one randomized controlled trial or systematic review. We're not telling you what to buy. We're showing you what the science says. You decide.

DEXA Scan (Bone Density Screening)

Sys. Review

You can't manage what you don't measure. A DEXA scan tells you exactly where your bone density stands. The National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends all women get a baseline DEXA at age 65, but if you have risk factors (family history, low body weight, early menopause, long term steroid use), ask your doctor about getting one earlier. This is the single most important thing on this list.

Beyond Products

Sometimes the answer is a doctor.

Supplements support. But if your symptoms are hormonal, the strongest clinical evidence points to HRT. The problem? Most women can't find a doctor who takes menopause seriously. Telehealth changed that.

Winona: Telehealth HRT

The medications they prescribe are the same ones backed by the clinical evidence on our Hormones page. This isn't a supplement. This is prescription HRT with a real doctor.

Why Winona over other platforms?

We researched six telehealth HRT providers. They all have real doctors. They all prescribe real hormones. Here's what made Winona stand out for our audience:

Own compounding pharmacies (503-A regulated). Most platforms send a standard prescription to CVS. Winona compounds personalized formulations for each patient.

$0 to start. No consult fee. No subscription. No required video appointment. You pay only for medication. Estrogen cream: $89/mo. Progesterone: $39/mo. DHEA: $27/3 months.

100,000+ patients. 4.6 stars (5,700+ reviews). Board certified OB/GYNs. HSA/FSA accepted.

Other options: If you have good PPO insurance, look into Midi Health (insurance-covered visits). If you want local pharmacy pickup, Evernow prescribes to your pharmacy. If you need testosterone, look into Joi Women's Wellness.

We feature Winona because they offer the lowest barrier to entry for prescription HRT we found, with personalized compounding. Transparency

What We Didn't Recommend.

Most sites recommend everything because they want the commission. We looked at these popular products, researched them, and decided not to include them. Here's why.

⚠ Safety Recall

Bowflex SelectTech 552 Dumbbells

Under a CPSC safety recall. Weight plates can detach mid-lift, posing laceration and impact injury risk. Multiple consumer injuries reported. We replaced this with the PowerBlock Sport 24.

Source: U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)

⚠ Contamination Lawsuit

Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides

Facing a $500M class action lawsuit alleging lead contamination. California Prop 65 violation notice filed (2025 to 02591). Owned by Nestlé, which faces separate sourcing controversies. We replaced this with Thorne Collagen Fit (NSF Certified for Sport, sold at Mayo Clinic Store).

Source: California AG Prop 65 Notice 2025-02591; Class Action Lawsuit Filing

⚠ Heavy Metals

Great Lakes Collagen Peptides

Independent lab testing (September 2024) detected lead and arsenic. FDA Warning Letter issued May 2021 for unapproved drug claims. Company refuses to publish heavy metal test results or share them with consumers who request them.

Source: Tamara Rubin Lead Testing, Sept 2024; FDA Warning Letter 612323, May 2021

◇ Better Option Available

Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega

A reputable brand, but doesn't participate in IFOS (International Fish Oil Standards) third party batch testing. We chose Carlson Maximum Omega 2000 instead because Carlson publishes IFOS results with the lowest oxidation score (5.04) and passed heavy metals testing. When you're putting something in your body daily, published purity data matters.

Source: IFOS (International Fish Oil Standards) public batch testing database

◇ Availability Issue

Bodylastics PRO Series Resistance Bands

Confirmed out of stock on Amazon with no restock date. We don't recommend products you can't buy. Replaced with Fit Simplify Loop Set, the #1 bestselling resistance band on Amazon with 5 progressive resistance levels.

Source: Amazon stock status, verified February 2026

◇ Insufficient Testing Data

Momentous Omega-3

We recommend Momentous for creatine and magnesium (both NSF Certified for Sport). But their omega-3 doesn't participate in IFOS testing, meaning there's no published third party data on oxidation levels or heavy metal content. For a product you take daily, we require published purity data. Carlson provides it. Momentous doesn't, for this product.

Source: IFOS testing database; Momentous product page (no IFOS certification listed)

How We Choose Products

Step 1: Clinical evidence. Every product starts with the research. We look for at least one randomized controlled trial (RCT) or systematic review supporting its use. We reference guidelines from NAMS, the AASM, the National Osteoporosis Foundation, and other recognized bodies. If the evidence is weak, mixed, or only from animal studies, it doesn't make the list.

Step 2: Third party verification. For supplements, we prioritize products with USP, NSF, or ConsumerLab certifications. These verify that what's on the label is actually in the bottle. Every certification badge on this page links to the verification source so you can check it yourself.

Step 3: What we rejected. Scroll up to see the "What We Didn't Recommend" section. We show you the popular products we looked at and decided against, with the reasons why. Transparency means showing our work, not just our picks.

Affiliate links. Some links are affiliate links. If you buy through our link, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. That commission helps keep KRUUSH running. Products are never added because of affiliate availability. Several products on this page have no affiliate link at all. We recommend them anyway because the data supports them.

We're not doctors. KRUUSH is for informational purposes only. This isn't medical advice. Every woman is different. What the data says works on average may not work for you specifically. Always talk to your healthcare provider before starting anything new, especially prescription products.

KRUUSH

The guide to perimenopause backed by data.

We're not doctors or medical professionals. KRUUSH is for informational purposes only. These aren't personal recommendations. This is published clinical data presented for your consideration. Always consult your healthcare provider.
